LED Technology
In Australia and internationally there is demand for traffic light systems that offer reductions in operating and maintenance costs. Traffic Technologies International specialises in the research, development, production and distribution of cutting edge LED technology based signalling solutions.
LEDs use less power, have a longer life and require less maintenance than traditional traffic lights. The longer life of LEDs means less frequent maintenance and accordingly lower operating costs.
An LED (Light Emitting Diode) doesn't have a filament, as a halogen lamp uses, but a semi-conducting crystal, which produces a narrow colour band of light, which differs depending on the type of crystal used. This is how red, amber and green light is produced. By encapsulating the crystal in solid plastic rather than a conventional vacuum filament, the LED becomes rugged, long lasting and produces little heat, making it a very efficient source of light, when compared to conventional traffic lights. These types of lights are projected to have a life-span of at least 10 years.
Traffic Technologies recognise the LED will revolutionise traffic signalling as we know it and have developed an intelligent LED signal module, known as the Smart Traffic Light.
Smart Traffic Light
The Smart Traffic Light was developed to assist road traffic authorities to reduce their operating costs and minimise interference to traffic resulting from failed traffic signals. This has been done with the assistance of various road traffic authorities and in conjunction with the University of Melbourne.
The Smart Traffic Light is a more efficient, longer lasting alternative to conventional traffic lights designed for intersections where traffic lights are being replaced or new traffic lights being installed. The Smart Traffic Light can be supplied as a retrofit for existing installations or with housing for new installations. The retrofit product has been designed to enable existing traffic light enclosures to be retained. The Smart Traffic Light has been certified as meeting all of the requirements of Australian Traffic Light Standard AS/NZS 2144:2002.
The Smart Traffic Light provides a number of significant advantages over traditional traffic lights:
- Reduces power consumption and thereby electricity cost;
- Reduces operating and maintenance costs;
- Extends traffic light life by up to 10 years; and
- Efficient operation in a range of environmental conditions.

BarrierGuard 800
Traffic Technologies have secured the national distribution contract for the Barrier Guard 800TM, a new, superior temporary road works steel barrier. The steel barrier out performs the cumbersome concrete barriers and water filled plastic barriers on safety, price and flexibility grounds.
The BarrierGuard 800 is a new generation temporary roadworks barrier that provides levels of safety in many roadworks zones previously not considered to be either possible or economic. It is a TL4 rated Temporary Steel Barrier.
The containment and deflection performance levels of the BarrierGuard800 are equal or better than any other current available system. Due to its light weight and quick and easy installation, the BarrierGuard800 is extremely economical in terms of transport and deployment.
The BarrierGuard 800 is an ideal system for short duration roadworks, jobs where there is frequent moves of roadworks, or jobs situated in distant locations.
The BarrierGuard 800 has been approved for use in Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia by the State Rd Authorities and also the FHWA. Full technical backup is available from our in house team of barrier specialists.
The BarrierGuard 800 can be used with approved end treatments such as the Universal TAU-II and the Absorb 350.
