TST transforms Oakleigh into a Smart Connected Precinct

The exciting new project deploying the TST Smart City Platform combines TST smart sensors and Aldridge Street Lighting.

The iSense project is a collaboration between Monash City Council and Monash University to build a smart precinct underpinned by advanced sensor technologies and a data communication network.

Using the TST Smart City Platform, the project provides a range of IoT smart sensor technologies connecting to a central control point.

Situated within the precinct on Atherton Road, Oakleigh, the sensors include; i-Tilt a movement sensor that can alert maintenance teams when a pole has been hit, Aldridge V-LED Smart lighting which can be controlled and adjusted remotely, i-Station weather sensors and Wi-Fi connection.

The TST IoT platform uses multiple sensoring technologies to sense, collect and analyse relevant data. The sensors and TST platform collects and fuses different data on mobility including vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as improve utilisation of public spaces such as on-street and off-street parking. Once captured, this data will be used in practical applications that will increase levels of service and efficiency and ultimately improve livability for the community.

Installation of The Aldridge V-LED smart lighting along the north side of Atherton Road serves as a base for the majority of smart connected sensors, housed within the Aldridge Smartpole, a multifunctional pole with architectural aesthetics that blends well into the urban environment.

There are several projects happening in Oakleigh at the moment and it provided the right opportunity for the Smart Cities project. The current $5.8 million reconstruction of Atherton Road provides the opportunity for these works to be part of the project including replacement of lighting. The project will pilot and test new technologies which may then be able to be rolled out on a larger scale.
